AN INTERESTING CASED 14-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN, serial no. 10392,
circa 1850, with browned 27 1/2in. barrels carved with multiple narrow raised reeds giving the impression of an octagonal form, the top-rib signed in script 'GASQUOINE & DYSON MARKET PLACE MANCHESTER', recoloured breech-blocks with scroll engraved rib-end and single gold line, bead fore-sight, fully engraved top-tang with raised sighting platform, recoloured border, scroll and gamescene engraved back-action locks, blacked scroll engraved hammers with dolphin heads, the eyes picked out in gilt and with central vignettes of gamebirds to both necks, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron furniture including border engraved heel-plate, the top-spur with gilded gamebirds, lower tang with raised chequered spur and under-barrel ebony ramrod, in a later leather case relined and compartmented in red baize for this shotgun and including a pair of period flasks
