AN UNUSUAL .650 PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED HOLSTER PISTOL SIGNED W. MILLS, LONDON, no visible serial number,
circa 1823 with later conversion to patchlock and subsequently percussion, 8 1/4in. twist damascus barrels, the top-rib signed 'W. MILLS 120 HOLBORN LONDON' (rubbed), engraved bands at muzzle and breech, engraved rib-end and twin gold lines, platinum plugs, broad fully engraved top-tang with shallow sighting groove, small flat and curved bevel-edges locks with stepped rounded tails, the plates signed 'W. MILLS', unusual slab sided and engraved hammers with angled squared necks supporting cylindrical heads with screw-slotted caps, walnut half-stock with finely chequered bag-shaped grip, guarded double triggers and brass mounted ebony under-barrel ramrod
Provenance: William Mills was apprenticed to William Parker before trading from various addresses in London. His business was at 120 Holborn between 1822-43 although he passed away in 1837. His son, William Frederick, continued the business under his father's name before going bankrupt in 1843
