Birmingham proofed octagonal barrel, marked at the breech 'AMMUNITION NO 2 MUSKET', with machine cut anti-glare top rib engraved in a panel with the makers name 'ROBERT HUGHES & SON'S BIRMINGHAM', fitted with a dovetailed blade front-sight, African express leaf and ladder rearsight comprising one fixed vee and four hinged leaves from 100 to 500 yards and a ladder from 500 to 1200 yards, sporting type Mk 4 hump backed action with top mounted safety lever, the action sides engraved with a floral border and central chequered pattern incorporating the makers name 'HUGHES' in a decorated curling banner, curved operating lever that fits in to the pistolgrip and is fitted with a horn finger grip, iron mounted two piece figured walnut stock with chequered pistolgrip and fore-end, horn nose-cap
