A CASED 12-BORE FLINTLOCK SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN, no visible serial number,
circa 1815, with browned octagonal to sixteen-sided to round 32 1/2in. barrel, the top-flat signed in gilt 'SYKES, OXFORD', applied fore-sight, platinum line and touch-hole at breech, the underside of barrel with London proofs and the barrel maker's stamp of William Fullerd, engraved top-tang featuring a hunting dog in a woodland setting, border and trophy engraved lock signed 'SYKES' below the rainproof pan, reverse 'C' shaped cock, roller frizzen, figured walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, engraved iron furniture, the trigger guard bow featuring a further hunting dog (cleaned of finish), two white metal escutcheoned barrel-keys and brass mounted mahogany ramrod, in its maker's dark walnut casing lined and compartmented in coarse green baize and complete with a flask, shot bandolier, leather accessory pouch (worn), two Sykes patent shot chargers, a cleaning rod and other sundries
