circa 1885, with tapering 28 1/2in. octagonal barrel, raised machine-engraved top-rib signed in a rectangular panel 'ROBERT HUGHES & SONS BIRMINGHAM', dove-tailed fore-sight, 'Africa' style rear-sight comprising a folding ladder combined with four flush-folding leaves and a shallow standing notch, calibre markings at breech, machine engraved slab-sided receiver, the central panels surrounded by broad hand engraved borders and signed in central banners 'ROBERT' and 'HUGHES' on the left and right sides respectively, thumb safety lever and cocking indicator, chequered walnut pistol-grip butt-stock with moulded grip-pommel and machine engraved heel-plate with central trap, colour hardened roll-tipped under-lever with applied horn grip-piece, guarded trigger, chequered walnut splinter fore-end with moulded horn tip and eyelets for a sling, much period finish remaining
