A SCARCE .44 PERCUSSION REMINGTON 1861 OLD MODEL ARMY REVOLVER, serial no. 5097,
manufactured circa 1862, with octagonal 8in. barrel signed on the top-flat 'PATENTED DEC 17 1861' over 'MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS, ILION N.Y.', white metal conical fore-sight, no exposed threads at barrel throat, plain six-shot cylinder without safety notches, solid frame, captive cylinder rod able to slide forwards without lowering the rammer, smooth walnut grips bearing a martial cartouche to the left and various inspector's initials stamped throughout (mostly 'P' & 'R')
