A RARE 8-BORE TUBELOCK SINGLE-BARRELLED FOWLING PIECE or PIGEON GUN SIGNED A. REED, LONDON, no visible serial number,
circa 1835, with well rebrowned octagonal to sixteen-sided to round 35 1/4in. barrel, London proofs and marked 'TWISTED STUBS' to the underside, the top-flat at breech signed 'ARC'D REED, CITY ROAD, LONDON', bead fore-sight, engraved and colour hardened squared breech with extended vent, border and scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved lock manufactured to Joseph Manton's 1818 patent, the bar inhabited by gamebirds below the exposed roller clamp-spring, bladed hammer nose, walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, blued and engraved iron furniture, twin barrel-keys with white metal clipped corner rectangular escutcheons and white metal nosecap, complete with a brass-mounted mahogany ramrod
