built to John Gilbey's patent no. 620 of 1853, with browned octagonal 30 3/4in. multi-groove rifled barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight, rear-sight of one standing and two folding leaves, tapering octagonal form spring-assisted flip-up rear-hinged breech with border and scroll engraving and marked on the top-flat 'GILBEY'S PATENT WITHOUT PRIMER', twin platinum lines to rear, copper obturator at barrel throat, border and scroll engraved receiver signed on the left 'E. AKRILL, MAKER, MARKET PLACE, BEVERLEY' above a large push-button breech release catch with exposed spring opposite on right, border and scroll engraved back-action lock signed 'E. AKRILL', dolphin headed hammer, highly figured walnut straight hand butt-stock chequered at the wrist and with blued and engraved furniture including flat-faced trigger-guard bow, detachable chequered fore-end with cross-key fastener, the front of fore-end lined for a presumed loading-rod, now absent, the whole with much original finish and colour throughout
