A CASED 13-BORE PERCUSSION SINGLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN SIGNED NORTH, SOUTHAMPTON, no visible serial number,
circa 1810, with later conversion to percussion, round 28in. damascus barrel, bead fore-sight, the breech-end of barrel engraved with a needle terminating with a cornucopia surmounted by a pigeon, acanthus engraved octagonal breech-block inlet with a gold poincon signed 'NORTH, SOUTHAMPTON' and with twin gold lines, Birmingham proofs, flat border and acanthus scroll engraved lock with clipped tail and retaining vestiges of the original pan and signed 'T. NORTH, SOUTHAMPTON' in script below, slab-sided hammer with the nose moulded as the mouth of a fish, chequered walnut half-stock (piece of wood cracked off forwards of the lock bar but present), iron furniture and ebony ramrod, in a period stained oak case lined and compartmented in green baize and including an Irish style shot bandolier, sykes tin flask with side-hangers, turn-screw, nipple-key, wad-punch, cap-tin and other sundry accessories, lock absent from case
