A RARE CASED 12-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN WITH PATENT WATERPROOF LOCK, serial no. 330,
built to his patents 6394 & 6436 of 1833, with browned damascus 30in. barrels, the top-rib signed 'CHARLES JONES 26 ST JAMES'S STREET LONDON, GUN MAKER TO H.R.H PRINCE ALBERT', bead fore-sight, colour hardened moulded breech-blocks with platinum vents and scroll engraving to rib-end, borderline and scroll engraved top-tang, border and scroll engraved dolphin headed hammers mounted on small scroll engraved oval stepped side-plates, chequered walnut half-stock, the broad border engraved trigger-plate action signed 'CHARLES JONES PATENT WATERPROOF LOCKS WITH CONCENTRIC SEARS & TRIGGERS', short scroll engraved lower tang, blued heel-plate and gamescene engraved trigger guard bow, double triggers, engraved ramrod throat and brass mounted ebony ramrod, some isolated areas of patchy pitting but retaining much original finish and in its un-labelled mahogany guncase lined and compartmented in blue baize with lidded compartments concealing a fine powder and shot flasks, boxwood spare nipple pot, wad-punch, cap-tin, nipple key and an ebony three-piece cleaning rod with jag


Provenance: The very first examples of Charles Jones's waterproof lock used internal hammers with special reversed nipples. The later examples as here used more conventional hammers and nipples
