A CASED 14-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING GUN SIGNED WILLIAM LING, LONDON, serial no. 528,
circa 1850, with browned laminated 30 1/4in. barrels, the raised top-rib signed 'WILL'M LING, GUNMAKER 61 JERMYN ST'T ST. JAMES'S LONDON', scroll engraving to the rib-end at breech, colour hardened breech-blocks (faded) with platinum engraved and vented plugs, border and scroll engraved long top-tang also featuring a vignette of a gamebird in flight, border, scroll and gamescene engraved back-action locks signed 'WILL'M LING LONDON' below the scroll engraved dolphin headed hammers, french polished walnut half-stock chequered at the wrist, iron furniture retaining a strong amount of original finish, the front of trigger guard bow fitted with a period horn grip-piece and brass mounted ebony ramrod, in its maker's oak casing, partially relined in green baize, good facsimile trade-label inside lid and complete with a good pair of leather bodied flasks, nipple key, oiler, snail capper, ebony cleaning rod, nipple pocket cleaner, cap tin, wad punch and sundry accessories


Provenance: William Ling was originally the foreman working for Forsyth, trading on his own from various addresses in London from 1820. The Jermyn Street address was his last and he worked there between 1840 and 1863
