AN EXCEPTIONAL CASED 16-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING RIFLE WITH SPARE 12-BORE SHOT BARRELS, serial numbers 1290 and 1291,
for 1865, with browned fine twist damascus 28in. rifle barrels, the flat top-rib matted for the length forwards of the rear-sight and fitted with a beaded blade fore-sight, the colour hardened rear-sight consisting of a broad standing notch and three flush folding scroll engraved leaves, each with platinum line, the rib section at breech signed 'ALEX'R HENRY 12 SOUTH ST. ANDREW ST. EDINBURGH' over 'PATENT No. 767' (Henry rifling patent use number), colour hardened moulded breech-blocks engraved with bands and scroll to the rib-end and fitted with engraved platinum plugs, the shot barrels also of 28in. and of ball weight, slightly concave rib with similar signature bar for the absence of the patent use number, similar breech-blocks except no vent to the plugs, fully border and scroll engraved colour hardened top-tang, border and fine scroll engraved colour hardened bar-action locks signed in banners below the forward facing bolted safes 'ALEX'R HENRY', finely engraved dolphin-headed colour hardened hammers of 'C' scroll form with raised and moulded screw-bosses, chequered walnut pistol-grip half-stock fitted with a border and scroll engraved colour hardened circular patch-box, engraved iron heel-plate (traces of colour), engraved and moulded iron grip-cap with central trap, engraved trigger guard bow (finish lost), the tang bearing the numbers of both barrel sets, engraved finial and barrel-key escutcheons, both barrels with twin ramrod pipes and equipped with brass mounted mahogany ramrods of the correct type respective to each barrel, the whole retaining virtually all its original finish and colour except where noted and in its manufacturer's mahogany casing lined and compartmented in green baize for the gun with both barrels and a full suite of accessories including patch-pots, mould, wad and patch-punches, snail capper, oil-bottle, cap-pot, cleaning rods, turn-screws, powder and shot flasks and a dismountable nipple-key, the inside of lid with a green parchment maker's label, the outside with an escutcheon marked P.J. CAMPBELL, SILVERBRIDGE, IRELAND'
