A SCARCE .177 WEBLEY & SCOTT OSPREY SUPERTARGET SIDE-LEVER AIR-RIFLE, serial no. 961
circa 1976, standard stocked model, with blued heavy 19in. barrel, tunnel fore-sight of Anschutz style on a squared muzzle-cap, tap-action breech, the position for the rear-sight blanked off with a plaque marked 'WEBLEY OSPREY SUPERTARGET', blued air-chamber marked 'WEBLEY OSPREY between the machined telescopic sight rails and fitted with an Anschutz style diopter peep-sight, dark walnut half-stock, light storage stains but generally in collector's external condition
Provenance: Webley Ospreys in .177 are quite scarce in comparison to their .22 cousins and Supertargets even more so. Announced in 1974, but not available until 1975, the first Osprey Supertargets wer simply standard models with Anschutz sights and a walnut as opposed to beech stock. Price was £72.95 with the ordinary version listing at £59.95. Some brochures advertised it as a 'Deluxe'. Another version was also available with a deep target stock suitable for standing shooting, this time with an advertised price of £125.15
