AN INTERESTING COLLECTION OF FIVE EUROPEAN WHEELOCK SPANNING KEYS,
mostly early 17th century and German, the first of cruciform shape with turned baluster bodies, two different sized square sockets on the arms, central ring swivels, one end with a pierced keyhole shaped mount with turnscrew blade (chipped), the other pierced, possibly for priming (gate absent), the second similar but with high relief carving of foliage, the priming nozzle with gate, the opening button carved with the mask of a green man, the third in excavated condition with losses, the fourth of plainer construction and possibly military, the last a simple lever-key with turnscrew blade and acorn finial tip
