circa 1874, with 24in. Birmingham proofed barrel rifled with five grooves, fitted with bayonet lug at muzzle, barleycorn front-sight and short P61 type carbine ladder rear-sight, Mk 3 positive bolt locked action the top stamped 'SNIDER / PATENT', standard P53 type side-action lock bearing the Crown cypher on the tail and '1874 / TOWER' to the centre, regulation brass mounted full walnut stock with two barrel bands, complete with correct rod and old brown leather sling
Provenance: This carbine is unusual for an artillery carbine with its 24in. barrel, the standard service artillery carbine featured a 21 1/2in. barrel
