A RARE 28-BORE (.550) 6-SHOT PISTOL GANG-MOULD,
early-mid 19th Century, brass with iron hinge and jaw-guide, one arm and opposite jaw stamped 'XXVIII', both jaws also stamped 'No.28', 19in. length when closed

Provenance: such moulds were used for the multiple production of balls for regulation calibre .577 military service pistols in both flintlock and percussion, including Long Sea Service, Lancer's, Short Sea Service, Customs and Revenue, etc., where the ball was 'patched'
