30in. black powder damascus barrel (some pitting), bead fore-sight, 2 1/2in. chamber, bored approx. 1/2 choke, Spencer & Roper patent action, US patent no. 255,894 / UK patent no. 1636 of 1882, with pivoted breech block, tubular magazine (restricted) with exterior sliding handle (repaired) which operates loading and ejecting cartridges and cocks the hammer, the triggerguard housing a secondary reversed trigger which also cocks the hammer, action engraved 'CHARLES LANCASTER. 151. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON.', 'SPENCER PATENT', blacked finish, 13 3/4in. stock, weight 8lb. 3oz.

Other Notes: The Spencer Repeating Shotgun is credited with being the first patented pump-action repeating firearm. A batch of 70 were imported by Charles Lancaster in the white and retailed by them fairly early on in the production run. Rigby's are also known to have imported them. Despite being well-received by the Shooting Press of the time, their innovative design and effectiveness in the field was not appreciated by the public and never enjoyed much commercial success in Britain
