circa 1875, with octagonal 28in. barrel, raised broad and matted top-rib fitted engraved with a trophy scale marked in inches from '1' to '12', dove-tailed blade fore-sight, 'African' seven-leaf folding rear sight, each leaf with central platinum line, the eighth one fixed standing, the top-flat near breech signed 'HOLLIS & SONS, LONDON' (rubbed), plain breech (nipple replaced), scroll engraved flip-up breech-block, border and scroll engraved lockplate and hammer, the front of lock signed 'I HOLLIS & SONS' (hammer spring absent or at fault), chequered walnut pistol-grip half-stock, large rectangular scroll engraved iron patch-box fitted to the left hand side of butt, the lid originally gamescene engraved now badly rubbed, iron heel-plate engraved around the toe and heel screws, centrally scroll engraved iron pistol-grip cap, scroll engraved trigger-guard bow, engraved oval barrel key escutcheons, moulded horn nose-cap and replacement brass ramrod, re-blued and re-finished throughout externally with loss to detail
