for 1866, with browned fine-twist damascus 31in. barrels, the top-rib signed 'J. PURDEY, 314 1/2 OXFORD STREET, LONDON', bead fore-sight, platinum line and engraved vented plugs to breech, colour hardened scroll engraved top-tang, borderline and scroll engraved colour-hardened locks signed 'PURDEY', scroll engraved colour hardened dolphin-headed hammers, chequered walnut half-stock with applied padded leather cheek-piece, blued iron furniture and no provision for ramrod, the whole retaining a remarkable amount of original finish throughout (barrel finish thinning, heel-plate finish worn)
Provenance: According to the makers this shotgun was completed in 1867 for an unknown client as a double-barrelled percussion gun of 11-bore weighing 7lb. 2oz. and with no provision for ramrod
