A CASED .455 SEMI-AUTOMATIC REVOLVER, MODEL '1901 FOSBERY', serial no. 442,
circa 1904, with 6in. sighted barrel, the top-rib marked 'J.R.C. HEALE. 36TH IY', the side of top-strap marked 'WEBLEY FOSBERY AUTOMATIC', left-hand of frame side marked with the 'Webley winged bullet logo and '.455 CORDITE ONLY', chequered sides to the hammer, chequered walnut grips, the left inlaid with 'SAFE' in gold, lanyard ring to base, the whole refinished in antiquity with mild traces of pitting, overall length 12in. and complete with a period leather covered travelling case lined and compartmented in burgundy baize and containing an oil bottle
Provenance: J.R.C. Heale, the vendor's grandfather, is recorded as serving with the 38th Imperial Yeomanry during the second Boer War.
