AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE PAIR OF 28-BORE FLINTLOCK BRASS-BARRELLED COACHING BLUNDERBUSSES, no visible serial numbers,
third quarter of the 18th century, with two-stage 14in. barrels signed 'HALL, LONDON' and with moulded girdles at the intersection and breech-ends, Tower proofs, engraved iron top-tangs with shallow sighting grooves, border engraved slightly radiused locks with pointed tails and signed 'HALL' below the bridled pans, swan-necked cocks, walnut handrail banana full-stocks with plain brass furniture, radiused sideplate bar, two barrel keys and horn-tipped ramrods
Provenance: These blunderbusses are almost certainly the work of Joseph Hall who traded from Budge Row, London Town from 1762-70 having become free of the Gunmaker's Co. in 1745 and Elected Assistant in 1755. By 1773 he was a contractor to the East India Co.
