A SCARCE 16-BORE 1865 PATENT EXTERNAL HAMMER-COCKING INTERNAL STRIKER SIDELOCK NON-EJECTOR, serial no. 3138,
circa 1880, 28 1/4in. black powder blank reproved bold damascus barrels (in 2026), wave-cut rib with banner engraved 'PERRINS & SON MAKERS. 59 BROAD STREET. WORCESTER. NO. 3138. PATENT.', 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. 1/4 and 1/2 choke, slender elongated treble-grip action with fluted fences, asymmetrical toplever, incorporating F.H. Grey patent external hammer/internal striker patent, no. 2743 of 24th October 1865, dipped-edge Stanton patent rebounding locks, the hammers of swept back low profile hare's-ear form, fine acanthus scroll engraving surrounding game scene vignettes of hound and fowl with crosshatch bordering, the underside with the head of a horse and foliate motifs, 14 5/8in. stock with engraved steel heel and toe plates, the fore-end with Charles Homer registered design push-forward release button with gold-inlaid 'PUSH' detail, design no. 5938 of 1877, sculpted horn finial, weight 6lb.
