A .451 HENRY'S PATENT PERCUSSION PRIZE RIFLE, serial no. 1105,
circa 1862-5, 30in. octagonal sighted barrel (rear leaf sight later) signed 'ALEX.R HENRY, 12 SOUTH ST. ANDREW ST. EDINBURGH' and 'PATENT NO. 686 GAUGE 451', bead fore-sight, scroll engraved patent breech with engraved platinum plug, scroll engraved tang and detented bolted lock (hammer replaced, spur incomplete), the latter signed 'ALEX.R HENRY', figured pistolgrip walnut half-stock with chequered grip and fore-end, the right side of the butt with inset silver plaque engraved 'EDINBURGH AND MIDLOTHIAN / RIFLE ASSOCIATION...' (remainder of inscription indistinct and worn), scroll engraved iron mounts including hinged patchbox-cover, the comb fitted with base for a back-position aperture target sight (sight not present), sling eyes, horn fore-end cap, and brass-tipped ramrod (metal parts discoloured), London proof marks.
