T.J. MORTIMER, LONDON
A 10-BORE SINGLE-BARRELLED PERCUSSION SPORTING GUN,
circa 1830, 32in. sighted two-stage barrel signed 'T.J. MORTIMER. MAKER TO HIS MAJESTY, LONDON' on the octagonal breech section, scroll engraved patent breech with engraved gold-inlaid line, gold-lined maker's mark engraved 'ST. JAMES' ST.' and pierced platinum plug, scroll engraved tang and lock, the latter signed 'T.J. MORTIMER / ST. JAMES' ST.', well figured walnut half-stock with chequered grip, scroll engraved iron mounts, and silver escutcheon, barrel-bolt escutcheons and fore-end cap (iron parts with some corrosion, especially the breech end of the barrel, ramrod missing).
Other Notes: Thomas Jackson Mortimer was made Gunamker-in-Ordinary to George IV in 1822.
