Product Details

COGSWELL & HARRISON 20-BORE 'CERTUS' SINGLE-BARRELLED FOLDING SIDELEVER HAMMERGUN, serial no. 63452, for 1950, 28 1/4in. nitro barrel, 2 1/2in. chamber, bored approx. 1/4 choke, sidelever opening, rebounding hammer, plain action, 14 1/2in. stock

Provenance: this gun is accompanied by a certificate of origin from the makers stating:

this gun was produced to an order from our Piccadilly shop and was completed by our craftsmen on 19th December 1950. It was built as a single barrel, 20 bore 'Certus' folding shotgun - a model known as the no.3. The action as of the semi hammer form with side lever opening and a rebounding hammer for added safety. It folded by depressing a small catch to allow the gun to "fold into two"

Contemporary documents refer to this model as "made entirely from British materials by gunmakers who have had over 150 years experience of the small arms trade". It was sometimes referred to as "The little gun with the big reputation".

The barrel was 28" and was bored to deliver a good quality half choke pattern. The stock was 14 7/16" long. When finished and assembled the gun displayed good handling characteristics and had an overall weight of 3lb. 12oz.

This gun was originally destined for Mr G.R. Dunster who for some unstated reason did not collect it. The original owner was Colonel G.C. Westall who took delivery of the gun on 20th December 1950. The cost was £16.13s which included £3.3s tax.

We confirm that the above information was extracted from the archives of Cogswell & Harrison on 28th October 2002 for the current owner
