W. RICHARDS 12-BORE BOXLOCK EJECTOR, serial no. 10920, for August 1931, 28in. replacement nitro barrels (in 1975), the rib engraved 'W. RICHARDS. LIVERPOOL & LONDON.' and gold-inlaid '1' at the breech-end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/2 choke, toplever inlaid '1', automatic safety engraved 'SAFE' detail, oak leaf carved fences, bold acanthus scroll engraving, brushed bright and reblued finish overall, 13 3/4in. figured stock (cracked to the rear of top tang) , weight 6lb. 1oz.
Provenance: this gun is accompanied by a certificate of origin from the makers stating
"this shotgun was completed on the 8th August 1931. it was of best finish, 12 gauge, double barrell, side-by-side boxlock, incorporating standard top lever and automatic safety.
The gun was engraved to best quality finish with oak fences. It was shown in records as originally being a Preston branch numbered gun. The woodwork was of the usual high standard produced by W. Richards. The gun was supplied by W. richards to Mr W. Dryden on the 9th September 1931. for the sum of £20.00. this included case and accessories.
