A .577 (SNIDER) MKIII SNIDER CARBINE SIGNED ENFIELD, serial no. 1990,
dated for 1871, with round 19 1/4in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, carbine size elevating ladder rear-sight, plain receiver marked 'III' on the nocksform, flip-open breech with sprung thumb-catch, plain lock with 'ENFIELD' signature and date, the bar with broad-arrow above 'I' mark and 'VR' crown device at tail, walnut half-stock with Enfield 'first quality' roundel to the right hand side, brass heel-plate and trigger guard, the former marked 'Q.C.' over 'A' over '17' on top-spur, chained pin protector, single iron barrel band and later reproduction leather rear-sight cover
