AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE 12-BORE 'SQUARE ACTION' SIDEPLATED 1887 PATENT TRIGGERPLATE-ACTION EJECTOR, serial no. 5694,
for 1904, 29in. sleeved nitro barrels (partially struck off), rib engraved '2' and 'JOHN DICKSON & SON. 63. PRINCES STREET. EDINBURGH.', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/2 choke, treble-grip Dickson patent triggerplate action incorporating patents 9399 and 10621 of 1887, use number 1147, with uncharacteristic square body and decorative sideplates, automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, best fine floral bouquet and acanthus scroll engraving, brushed finish, 14 1/4in. figured replacement stock, weight 6lb. 9oz.


Provenance: The makers records list the gun as being No.2 of a pair of 'square action' guns, with 29in. barrels, sold on 20th August 1904 to C.H. Cowan.
