AN EXTREMELY FINE CASED PAIR OF 16-BORE DOUBLE-BARRELLED PERCUSSION SPORTING GUNS, serial numbers 4321/2,
for February 1st, 1890, with browned damascus 30 3/4in. barrels signed on the top-rib 'JOHN DICKSON & SON, 63 PRINCES STREET, EDINBURGH' and marked '1' and '2' respectively for the pair (no.'1' with small corrosion spot to centre of rib, no. '2' with fingerprint sized patch of shallow pitting at breech), bead fore-sights, colour hardened breech-blocks with fine rose and scroll engraving to rib-ends and further engraved bands, engraved platinum plugs, colour hardened fully engraved long top-tangs with shallow sighting grooves, colour hardened fully scroll engraved back-action locks signed in banners 'JOHN DICKSON & SON', en-suite hammers, chequered and highly figured walnut half-stocks with blued iron furniture, the lower tangs and trigger guard bows with border and scroll engraving, colour hardened trigger-plates, finials, ramrod throats and barrel key escutcheons and white metal oval escutcheons to underside of butts, both guns apparently unfired and in their maker's two-tier oak casing, each gun with a full compliment of accessories of the highest quality including a snail capper for each, a set of charge carriers, matching powder and shot flasks, oil bottles, spring cramps, turn-screws, nipple keys, wad-punches, patch and nipple-pots in identical settings on each tier, the inside of lid with gold blocked grey card John Dickson trade-label (small rub-hole centrally) and together with a copy of the work 'Charles Gordon - Magnificent Madness' by Donald Dallas, no. 267 of a limited edition of 500 and signed by the author in 2010.
