AN UNUSUAL C. STRACKE 16-BORE BERGER-PATENT 'FURST PLESS' UNDERLEVER-COCKING SPORTING GUN, serial no. 1531, circa 1875 and sold with a Proof Exemption certificate as unsuitable for use, certificate no. 1098, dated 05/10/2006
31 7/8in. (81cm) etched damascus barrels, the rib gold-inlaid in gothic script 'W.B.', Berger patent independent coil spring strikers (an adaptation from the 1859/60 needlefire design), removable striker discs, rotary-underlever slide and drop action , action at fault and left spring catch missing, underlever with horn knob, ornate steel triggerguard with carved horn pistolgrip, action and furniture carved in relief with bold acanthus scrollwork surrounding game scene vignettes of hound and fowl with gold and silver inlays, 14in. stock with bulbous cheekpiece, sling swivels, the left side of the butt carved in high relief with a scene of a roe buck and doe, some cracks, repairs and insert repairs around head and hand, steel buttplate, weight 7lb. 9oz.
