A CASED 48-BORE PERCUSSION LANG PATENT RECIPROCATING TRANSITIONAL REVOLVER SIGNED WITTON DAW & CO., serial no. 73,
circa 1846 and with octagonal 6in. London proved barrel, dove-tailed fore-sight and standing notch rear-sight, the top-flat signed 'WITTON DAW & CO. IMPROVED THREADNEEDLE ST. LONDON' and 'No.73', wedge barrel key, plain reciprocating six-shot cylinder (chamfer eroded on barrel), slightly angled nipples, borderline engraved nipple-guard, radiused border and scroll engraved boxlock action with offset single-action spurred dolphin hammer (traces of colour), finely chequered walnut bag-shaped grip, the back of wrist with a vacant clipped-corner rectangular escutcheon, moulded heel-cap with central trap, guarded trigger, the whole retaining traces of finish and in its original oak casing lined in green baize, parchment 'WITTON DAW & CO' trade label inside lid and complete with a full suite of accessories including brass bullet mould, right-angled nipple-key with combined rammer (chipped), a further loading rod, a bag-shaped Sykes flask, oil bottle, turn-screw and cap-tin, all period and probably original to the set
