A 12-BORE FLINTLOCK BRASS-BARRELLED BLUNDERBUSS SIGNED PEGLER, LONDON, no visible serial number,
circa 1800, possibly re-locked, with brass 16in. barrel signed on the top 'MINORIES LONDON'. banded cannon muzzle, iron top-tang, the flat plain stepped-tail lock stamped 'PEGLER', walnut shotgun full-stock with chequered wrist, brass furniture of an earlier style and horn-tipped ramrod
Provenance: Three gunmakers called Pegler operated in the Westminster area of London in the late 18th to early 19th century, one of whom was a lockmaker only. It is quite possible one of his locks replaced the one originally fitted to this blunderbuss, which appears to be of 18th century style
