dated for 1857, with brushed bright 40in. barrel, block and blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, vent screw to nipple bolster, bevel-edged hump-backed lockplate marked 'U.S. SPRINGFIELD' on the bar, date to the tail and with an American Eagle device on the tape-primer door, well refinished walnut full-stock, iron furniture except for brass nose-cap and iron cup-tipped ramrod, fitted with a later leather sling
