A FINE LATE VICTORIAN BOWIE-KNIFE SIGNED GEORGE WOSTENHOLM & SON,
circa 1890, with 9 1/2in. heavy clip-point blade false edged for the last 5 1/2in., the upper part of blade on the left face signed 'GEORGE WOSTENHOLM & SON, WASHINGTON WORKS' and 'NONE ARE GENUINE BUT THOSE MARKED I*XL' together with the spread eagle trademark, the blade proper etched 'CALIFORNIA KNIFE' on the same side, the forte marked 'I*XL', cast and moulded nickel scrolled cross-guard with turned-back finials, concealed tang fitted with a natural stag handle, cast nickel horse-head pommel, much finish, in its black leather scabbard with plain nickel mounts
