A LATE VICTORIAN BOWIE-KNIFE SIGNED GEORGE WOSTENHOLM & SON,
circa 1890, with 9in. heavy clip-point blade false edged for the last 5in., the upper part of blade on the left face signed 'GEORGE WOSTENHOLM & SON, WASHINGTON WORKS' and 'NONE ARE GENUINE BUT THOSE MARKED I*XL' together with the spread eagle trademark, the blade proper etched 'THE UNION MUST AND SHALL BE PRESERVED' within a scrolled border on the same side, the forte marked 'I*XL', heavy nickel straight cross-guard with moulded finials, full width tang of 'coffin' form fitted with natural stag scales held by four brass pins, some light cleaning, no scabbard
