circa 1864, 7in. single-edged blade faintly etched to the left side "THE AMERICAN'S PRIDE EQUAL RIGHTS, EQUAL LAWS, / AND JUSTICE TO ALL", left side of ricasso marked "US" with a five point star between the letters, alloy cross-guard, steel handle with a thin black inlay with inset mother-of-pearl decoration, no scabbard, cross-guard slightly loose, blade with some edge-nicks and a little blinded pitting toward the tip and on the ricasso, 11 3/4in. overall
