circa 1880, later modified to Vetterli central-fire, with 30 3/4in. blued barrel, fore-sight built up with a brass cover, elevating tangent rear-sight, tubular receiver with turned down bolt, side loading gate, walnut butt-stock with iron heel-plate, double set 'sharp-shooter' triggers with spurred guard, walnut full-length fore-end with square-cut chequering near the receiver (rubbed), tubular magazine within the fore-end and replacement under-barrel clearing rod
