for 1885, 26in. black powder only barrels with solid raised rib, finely file cut matting to the breech end, open sights and two folding leaf sights with white metal-inlaid sight lines and marked for 50, 100 and 150 yards, bead foresight, the tubes engraved 'HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98 NEW BOND STREET. LONDON. WINNERS OF ALL THE "FIELD" RIFLE TRIALS. LONDON. 1883', carved percussion fences, slender toplever, rebounding back-action locks with dolphin hammers (right hammer screw missing), fine border and acanthus scroll engraving, the bar with a single floral bouquet each side, the lockplates with Holland & Holland, retaining slight traces of original colour-hardening and finish (under light surface patination), 14 5/8in. figured semi-pistolgrip stock with engraved steel pistolgrip-cap and horn buttplate (buttplate damaged), fore-end with Anson push-rod release, weight 6lb. 7oz.
