A 12-BORE 1887 PATENT ROUND-ACTION TRIGGERPLATE-ACTION EJECTOR, serial no. 4946,
for 1897, 29in. replacement nitro chopperlump barrels (in 1988), the rib engraved 'JOHN DICKSON & SON. 63 PRINCES STREET. EDINBURGH.', the breech end with acanthus scroll detailing and '1', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. and 1/4 choke, Dickson patent triggerplate action incorporating patents 9399 and 10621 of 1887, use number 662, treble-grip action, the toplever engraved '1', automatic safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, profusely engraved with bold acanthus scrollwork on a matted background and with some beaded bordering, the makers name in scrolling banners to the sides, bright finish, 14 1/2in. figured stock, the fore-end inset in white metal '1', weight 6lb. 9oz.


Provenance: The gun is listed in the makers records as having been sold on the 29th September 1897 with 29in. barrels. Interestingly it is not flagged as being one of a pair - and the next sequential number in the records is a 16-bore example of their round action
