AN HISTORICALLY INTERESTING WOODEN CUDGEL, last quarter of the 18th century, made of dark-wood and 25in in length, pierced near one end for a leather wrist-loop (remenants remain) and bearing an old paper label stating 'A cudgel - one of a number issued to the New River Company's Servants to protect their Masters property, particularly the river at Bush Hill - from rioters in 1780'
