A FINE, CASED 22-BORE DOUBLE-BARRELLED PERCUSSION SPORTING GUN,
circa 1840, possibly converted from flintlock, with re-browned 30in. barrels, the top-rib inlaid in gold 'GEORGE STURMAN, LONDON' and engraved with a pointer, scroll engraving at the breech-end of the barrels and gold inlaid at the breech with a game bird (mild external pitting), border and scroll engraved top-tang surrounding a gold inlaid pheasant with additional scroll engraved white-metal tang-plates, flat, slightly curved locks with fancy border and scroll engraving, signed 'G.STURMAN', white metal engraved border plates at front and rear of locks, finely scroll engraved, dolphin head hammers, walnut half-stock, chequered at the wrist together with a silver oval monogrammed 'GHT', engraved steel furniture, square-backed trigger guard with a pointer engraved to the bow and original nickel-silver mounted ramrod (iron surfaces lightly stained) TOGETHER WITH a fine period mahogany guncase, compartmented and lined in blue velvet with a full complement of accessories including two flasks and an oil bottle, engraved on the lids brass ring handle 'THE REV H. H. TEMPLAR, SHAPWICK GLASTONBURY SOMERSET, together with a file on the history of the guns ownership
