A FINE, CASED PAIR OF 50-BORE PERCUSSION RIFLED TARGET PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1860, with blued octagonal partially multi-fluted rifled barrels, blade fore-sights adjustable in a dovetail, notch rear-sights adjustable for elevation via a screw, colour-hardened breech-ends with border and scroll engraving, plain colour-hardened nipple-guards, breeches numbered '1' and '2' in gold, colour-hardened border and scroll engraved flat bar-action 'hump-backed' locks with stepped tails, signed in gold 'L COLLOMBERT A AIX-LES BAINS', border and scroll engraved colour-hardened hammers, finely chequered ebonised walnut half-stocks with flared butts capped with colour-hardened scroll engraved butt-caps with blued, turned finials, blued, spurred trigger-guards engraved with crowned monograms, colour-hardened trigger-plate and finial, colour-hardened take-down wedge and escutcheons, no provision for ramrods, both pistols retaining the majority of their original finish (some loss of blue and speckled corrosion to barrels through storage) and appearing little used TOGETHER WITH their original brass-mounted oak storage case lined in green velvet (faded) in the continental style, the padded lining of the lid with 'L. COLLOMBERT, MAITRE DE TIR, A AIX LES-BAINS, SAVOIR' in gilded letters (some loss to definition), the case containing a full complement of accessories including a nickel-plated powder flask, a compound hinged ball mould, a nipple-key and turn-screw with ebony lozenge-shaped handles, a loading rod and cleaning rod with detachable worm, an ebony primer pot (chip to lid) and an ebony oil bottle (small crack to lid and lock incomplete)
