A FINE TRUE PAIR (DAISHO) OF JAPANESE SWORDS,
circa 1820, comprising a Katana and a Wakizashi, the first with 28in. re-polished blade, visible 'crashing-wave' hamon (some minor flaws apparent through polishing), signed tang with one 'mekugi-ana', twin carved copper and gilded 'seppa', the 'tsuba' of copper with gilded accents and carved decoration of a mounted 'Zen' archer on one side with bamboo covered hill-sides beneath a stippled cloud background on the reverse, 'cat-scratches' to the 'habaki', the 'tsuka' of ray-skin bound with black Japanese cotton with gilded 'kashira' and 'fuchi' carved with stippled background panels, gilded 'menuki', black laquered 'saya' over a stippled brown laquer background (some edge-cracking), en-suite 'koiguchi' , 'kojiri' and 'kurigata', the second with 20in. re-polished blade in similar condition, same signature to the tang, similar style 'tsuba', decorated 'kozuka' with same signature, 'saya' with some edge cracking and 'kurigata' detached but present, both swords complete with period sword-bags
