A CASED 13-BORE PERCUSSION DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, serial no. 4155,
for 1888, with re-browned damascus 28in. barrels, unsigned but maker marked 'J.D & S', border and scroll engraved breech-block with engraved platinum plugs (traces of colour), fine colour-hardened border and scroll engraved top-tang numbered '1', fine border and scroll engraved colour-hardened back-action locks signed 'JOHN DICKSON & SON', scroll engraved squared hammers with detachable noses, chequered walnut half-stock, iron furniture (trigger-guard tang and bow rubbed), plain thimbles and original brass-tipped ramrod TOGETHER WITH a mahogany storage case re-lined and re-fitted in blue baize, reproduction Dickson label to inside of lid and containing a pair of nickel-mounted flasks by Dixon, a turn-screw, nipple-key caps and a nipple-pot

Provenance: This gun was ordered by the famous Scottish eccentric Charles Gordon who in the late 19th and early 20th centuries ordered many muzzle-loading firearms, his favoured maker being John Dickson & Son of Edinburgh. Dickson's completed their last firearm for Gordon, a percussion rifle, in February 1904.

Other Notes: The makers have kindly confirmed that this gun left the workshop on the 12th May 1888 as one of a trio for the aforementioned Charles Gordon
