A 12-BORE 1879 PATENT 'THE EDINBURGH' BAR-IN-WOOD SKELETAL TRIGGERPLATE-ACTION EJECTOR, serial no. 2938,
28in. replacement nitro barrels (in 1972), rib engraved 'JAMES MACNAUGHTON & SONS, 36 HANOVER STREET, EDINBURGH' and gold-inlaid '1' grape and vine detailing towards the breech end, 2 1/2in. chambers, bored approx. imp. cyl. choke in both, Macnaughton patent treble-grip action incorporating later 1894 barrel-cocking design, with standard length toplever gold-inlaid '1', top-strap with solid inspection plate cover, 1879 patent pivoting safety lever with engraved 'SAFE' detail, skeletal action bar and furniture finely engraved with flowing grape and vine motifs on a matted background, the fore-end iron decorated en-suite, brushed and blued finish overall, 15 3/4in. highly-figured stock including 1 3/8in. wooden extension, weight 6lb. 14oz.
Provenance: The makers have kindly informed us that this shotgun was completed as an 'extra best quality' in 1907 for 'Hodge'.
