circa 1860, with heavy octagonal re-blued 34 1/2in. barrel with Henry rifling, the top-flat signed 'ALEXr. HENRY 12 SOUTH ST ANDREW ST EDINBURGH' near the breech and 'PATENT NO. 671 GAUGE 451' forwards of the rear-sight, the front half of the top-flat cross-hatched and matted, broad micro-adjustable dove-tailed tunnel fore-sight with interchangeable element and operating on a scale (some elements and later key supplied), rear-sight with provision for ladder (missing), the breech-block with engraved bands and scrolls, engraved platinum plug, fully scroll engraved top-tang, the wrist fitted with period vernier adjustable ladder peep-sight, borderline and scroll engraved bar-action lock (much renewed colour remaining) signed 'ALEXr. HENRY' below the hammer and featuring a scene of a prowling tiger the front, slab-sided fully scroll engraved hammer with dolphin head and blued sliding safety to the rear, chequered full pistol-grip half-stock with scroll engraved iron patch-box to the right hand side of butt, the lid with an engraving of a standing stag within a rope-twist border, scroll engraved iron heel-plate with an engraving of a lion to the short top-spur, moulded iron pistol-grip cap with scroll engraved central cap-box, scroll engraved trigger-guard tang, the bow with a further engraving of a tiger, engraved finial, moulded horn fore-end tip and no provision for ramrod
