A FINE CASED PAIR OF .650 PERCUSSION SAW-HANDLED OFFICERS PISTOLS, no visible serial numbers,
circa 1810, with later conversion to percussion by the makers, with 10in. octagonal barrels signed on the top-flats 'H.W. MORTIMER & SON LONDON' above 'GUN-MAKERS TO HIS MAJESTY', traces of brown finish, dove-tailed blade fore-sights, standing notch rear-sight with carved sighting grooves to the top-tangs, blued engraved breech-blocks, flat border and scroll engraved lockplates signed 'H.W. MORTIMER & SON', scroll engraved slab-sided dolphin-headed hammers, sliding safes behind the hammers, walnut full-stocks with finely chequered saw-grips, swollen flat-based pommels with inlet engraved iron caps, blued trigger guard tangs and spurred bows engraved with borders and scrolls, the centre of the bows marked '89 FLEET ST.', pineapple finials and horn tipped mahogany ramrods with worm ends; TOGETHER WITH their makers original mahogany storage case, compartmented and relined in old green baize, makers parchment label to inside of lid and containing a number of original accessories including a three-way flask, scissors ball-mould, nipple-key and loading-unloading rods, the outer lid with inlet brass ring handle and vacant escutcheon
