Riley patent action, patent no. 491 of 16th February 1866, use number 296, the action bar slotted to fit patent cartridge extracting mechanism and the unusually carved percussion fences with patent 'loaded' indicators, mushroom strikers, non-rebounding sidelocks with repaired dolphin hammers, acanthus scroll engraving with crosshatch bordering, the lockplates with a scrolled cartouche engraved 'T. MURCOTT. NO. 9925', heavily polished finish, triggerguard with repair, 15 1/8in. figured tiger-stripe stock including 1in. rubber recoil pad, fore-end with captive sprung crosspin release, W.S. Riley patent 1825 of 17th June 1872, use number 296, weight 6lb. 14oz.
