AN EXCEPTIONAL 24-BORE FLINTLOCK DOUBLE-BARRELLED SPORTING-GUN, no visible serial number,
circa 1795, with blued 30in. barrels signed in gold script 'DEBOUBERT' on the left-hand barrel and 'A PARIS' on the right along with gold scrolls forwards of the signature, the top-rib with an inlaid gold arrow, wide gold bands at the muzzle, applied fore-sight with gilded ball-terminus arrow-heads fore and aft, the breech fully gilded for the first 1 3/8in. with a forward indented acanthus border, inlaid gold oval poincons at each breech-end, the left stamped with the letters 'I.C' spaced with antlers, the right stamped with an Imperial Eagle mark, brushed bright bulbous top tang engraved with swags and featuring the mask of a wolf, brushed bright bevel-edged locks with curved tails signed 'DEBOUBERT A PARIS' in script forwards of the hammers, the tails engraved with swans, the hammers engraved with wyverns, platinum lined semi-rainproof pans, roller-bearings to the frizzen-springs, chequered semi-pistol-grip half-stock (expertly repaired at wrist), fine floral carving around the front edge of the locks, around the top-tang and along the back-edge of the raised cheek-piece, shell carving behind the locks and spiral ribbons carved beneath the locks, the pommel of the grip finely carved with a boars-head, engraved iron butt-cap featuring a stag in a woodland setting to the top-spur, similar engraved to the broad, lipped, pillar-fronted trigger-guard bow, vase finial and rolled edge ramrod thimbles, ebony ramrod, much original finish throughout
