dated for 1860, with blued 33in. barrel rifled in three grooves signed 'WILLIAM GREENER MAKER 1860', block and blade fore-sight, elevating ladder rear-sight, border and scroll engraved top-tang and breech-end bearing the stamped serial number, border engraved lock with scroll engraved front and tail engraved with an armourial over 'N.V.R.C.' (believed Newcastle Volunteer Rifle Corps), engraved circles around the lock-pins, chained nipple-protector, scroll engraved hammer, walnut three-quarter stock with iron furniture, two iron barrel-bands, bayonet bar on the right-hand side of muzzle and jag-ended iron ramrod
